Prioritizing?

It’s a never ending challenge to get this right. Just as soon as I think I’ve got everything in order, the winds pick up and shuffle everything around. It reminds me of when my children were infants. I’d just get into routine, knowing when they liked to nap, feed and play, and then, without warning, their internal clocks shifted, leaving me once more trying to organize life around their newly chosen schedules.

Are you driven by a prioritization chart? Or are you the easy-go-lucky type who manages to fit everything in without a pang of worry?

Through prayer, I’m making adjustments to my scheduling once more. I’m trying to get it more in line with my reassessed priorities. Like the seasons of the calendar year, some of my priorities have seasons, too. For spring and summer, what priorities climb the ranks on your list, and which ones step down for a well-deserved rest? Do you have seasons for editing and seasons for first drafts? Or do you mix those crafty challenges together all year long in your writing priority category?

Surrendering to Him,
Eileen

I am a very orderly and anal person, so I love organization. :)

I definitely have a "To Do" list for home and writing.

Yes, I go through seasons with priorities. It's easy to rush along and then suddenly realize that I've gone overboard with something (like writing or blogging or whatever.) Then I have to step back and take a deep breath and pray for strength to do what God wants first! I'm a driven, type A personality! But I think God wants to use that tendency to stretch me!

Dear Eileen:
Thanks for this post.

I struggle daily with priorities, as I wear so many different hats.
Because I work full time and am a pastor's wife, I cannot possibly have a word count goal, or i'd be a slave to it, then beat myself up when i didn't accomplish it!

I have planners: one at work and one at home, which i do my best to stick to, but sometimes have to deviate, just for my sanity!

I try to put in an hour a day on writing, whether it be my wip, blog posts, working on a proposal or one-page, or reading good writing. Sometimes I get in the hour, sometimes only 15 minutes, sometimes two hours or more. Following the leading of the Holy Spirit is my biggest goal in every area of my life.

I appreciate your encouragement!

Hmmm, I'm not sure what I am. I don't like to sit and plan out my day. It feels constraining. Yet, at the same time, I have a mental plan of how much writing I want to get done and how my day should go. I also have chores I like to accomplish and my kids have a set schedule.
I don't like to plan stuff though. I hate being busy.

I guess I'm really confused about what I like! LOL! :-)

I'm a planner--I have to or I don't feel as though I accomplished anything. With writing-- the goals keep me moving!

I really struggle with priorities. I have them right in my head... but I don't always live them out. I say my family is more important than my writing... but when they interrupt me - how do I respond? Usually with annoyance. It is something I have to pray about constantly. That isn't the type of wife or mother I want to be. I am a continual work in progress. Two steps forward, one step back. Thanks for the post!

Priorities are hard. I tend to let life get in the way of writing. Sometimes that can be a good thing, but then there are times when no writing gets done. And I really hate that!

I find that, the more I try to plan and organize myself, the more curves get thrown my way. I've learned by necessity to go with the flow, to leave it up to a higher power since I can only control so much.

Good luck : )

I'd like to think I have it all down perfectly, but that sooo isn't me. I'm a type A so I thrive on routine, but things rarely line up the way I design them in my head. Prioritizing every now and then would really help!
